About Weantinoge: Founded in 1965 as a nonprofit, public charity and regional land trust, Weantinoge is a guardian of natural and working lands, public recreation areas, and drinking water resources. As Connecticut’s largest land trust, Weantinoge permanently protects 10,000 acres (and growing) of vast, connected natural areas in Litchfield and northern Fairfield Counties.

The Midsummer Party is the leading source of funding for Weantinoge’s regional conservation work. Proceeds are used to support Weantinoge’s environmental mission, including the:

  • Stewardship of 12 public hiking preserves;
  • Conservation of 29 working farms;
  • Defense of 3,000 acres of habitat for endangered, threatened, and special concern species;
  • Conservation of 42 miles of rivers, lakes, and streams; and
  • Donation of more than 1,000 hours of skilled staff support to our land trust partners annually.

In 2013, Weantinoge was awarded an EPA Environmental Merit Award for its outstanding commitment to conserving the natural environment. In 2015, Weantinoge received accreditation for meeting the highest national standards for excellence and conservation permanence from the Land Trust Accreditation Commission.
